Laura’s Brand Tenets
Personal and professional operating principles for life and work
-
BIAS FOR ACTION IS SEXY
Momentum and speed matter in business. I’m all for calculated risk-taking. Start now, figure it out as you, and then iterate - you, the team and the brand will be better for it. Don’t believe me? Try it.
-
CLARITY OVER CHAOS
Clear over clever. I strive to distill unknowns and inputs into their most valuable components to tell the customer truth. Simplicity breeds understanding and alignment, amplifying the end product.
-
FAILURE OVER PERFECTION
There is no winning or losing - only succeeding or learning. I’m never done iterating and failing means I’ve learned something and am closer to a better, bigger, bolder big idea, territory, strategy line, brief, story, product, or service. Perfection is illusion; it is the lessons gained along the journey to the goal that makes the work, well work.
-
THINKING BIG VS STAYING SMALL
I strive to create and communicate new possibilities that inspire bold directions and results. And I’m always thinking differently to better understand, serve, empathize, motivate, and connect with customers.
-
DIVING DEEP VS SKIMMING THE SURFACE
Going deep unveils the unmarked gridlines and gives shape and language to the customer truth. Leadership is about operating on all levels and simultaneously grasping the big picture, combing through the details, auditing frequently, and being skeptical and employing question-thinking where appropriate.
-
COURAGE > FEAR
Own your voice and your idea - no good decision ever came from fear. Be unapologetically you and the unknown is to be embraced, not feared. Courage means thinking beyond the brand’s world today and combining disparate information, trends, and culture to expand it. Innovation comes from bravery and I’m not for the faint of heart. Too much? Probably. Should I change? I haven’t yet. Excited to inspire courage in others and act with positive intent and shared accountability.
-
GROWTH OVER STASIS
I’m never done growing, learning, iterating - that’s the work and the love of the work. Nothing is ever finished or perfect and that’s a good thing. Finish lines don’t exist. And stories, commercials, books, films, relationships, jokes… anything in life that is interesting, fun or memorable really has a change in it: a main character changes and is different from the beginning of the story when compared with the ending.. If no change [or growth] occurs it’s a flatline and boring… that’s stasis, or death.

COLLABORATION OVER LONE-WOLFISM
We win or lose as a team, and in a creative industry the advertising and marketing we make is better for it, and more enjoyable when we create amazing ads and acts in the world, together.
